Citizens are not Equal in Sri Lanka; Slaves of Sri Lanka.

On this day, Sri Lanka celebrates its 61st Independence Day, freedom from the British.
Ceylon achieved independence from the British in 1948 and in the same year the Government of Sri Lanka, passed a new act called the Ceylon Citizenship Act which denied citizenship to Sri Lankans of Indian origin.
In 1956 the Government of Sri Lanka enacted another act called the Official Language Act (better known as the Sinhala Only Act which made the Sinhala as the sole official language of Sri Lanka.
The Ceylon Citizenship Act and the Sinhala Only Act were seen as discriminatory policies towards the Tamils in Sri Lanka and led to increased ethnic and political tensions between the two communities. These were the root causes for the Civil War in Sri Lanka.
It is quite obvious that, this island was a Paradise on Earth before 1948;
that is, when the British were in power all the Citizens of Ceylon were treated Equal.
After 1948, this island became Hell on Earth, when the Citizens of Sri Lanka were not treated Equal.
In America, Abraham Lincoln made all the Citizens of America are equal. Abraham Lincoln didn't do it in an easy way; There was a Civil War for equal rights. The situation in Sri Lanka is exactly the same now.
Make all the Citizens of Sri Lanka Equal - the problems will be solved immediately.
Your dad may be from Kenya. But you were born in America and you are an American Citizen. You are treated equal with other citizens of America. Now you became the President of United States of America. These kids were born in Sri Lanka. They are citizens of Sri Lanka, but not being treated equal with other citizens. These kids can never become the President of Sri Lanka.
In America, anyone can become the Chief of the Armed Forces or the Defense Secretary or Secretary of State. But these citizens of Sri Lanka can never become the Defense Secretary or Army Chief or any top government executive posts. They always have to be Slaves of Sri Lanka
In India, the democracy is in a state of chaos and confusion. But the truth is - All Citizens are Equal. Anyone can become the President, Governor, Prime Minister, Chief Minister. They can also reach any Military or Civil Executive positions. No Slaves in India.
IRAQ, the youngest democracy on Planet Earth. There are no slaves in Iraq. All citizens are Equal. You may call them as, Shiite - Sunni - Kurd. But all are Citizens of Iraq and any citizens can reach the top executive positions.
It's time to eliminate the slavery from Sri Lanka and give equal rights to the Citizens of Sri Lanka.
