14th Lok Sabha is still alive.
  • United States of India The term of the 14th Lok Sabha expires on June 1, 2009. That means, the parliament is still alive. Even now, it is not too late.

You can still make amendments to the constitution to elect the President of United States of India by the People directly.

Get rid of those Prime Ministers and other Ministers. When there is no King or Queen, why do we still have Ministers.

Democratic country needs only the President, the Chief Executive of the nation. Let the people directly elect the President. The number game will come to an end. Seat sharing, seat adjustments, interested only in winning constituency – all those will be gone.

This is one of the best strategy for the national parties to counter the challenges of those regional leaders. Congress and BJP can not form an alliance; but they can join together now in the Parliament, and make the amendments in the constitution.

When it is a direct election, you don't need to worry about seat adjustments, giving tickets to all those factions, alliance with the local parties – all will be gone once for all. In fact, no one will be interested in becoming a Member of Parliament any more.

Right now, so many are interested in becoming a MP, because there is a chance that they can become a Minister. If the MP is purely a legislative job, then there will not be any rush. All the mad rush will be totally gone. Only the true citizens with dedication for service to the nation would like to become the MP.

When the President is directly elected then he/she will have Secretaries in the cabinet. No Ministers. The President will have the total freedom to choose the cabinet members. In that case, the President may choose MS. Swaminathan as the Secretary of Agriculture.

First and foremost, it gives stability for the Central Government. All those no-confidence motion fear will be gone. The elected government will function for the four or five years without any fear about the stability. The election commission will save a lot of money and human resources. The by-election will become an ordinary event.

There will be a clear separation of the Executive and Legislative branch. Every branch will become very effective. Right now, all the branches are ineffective. It is because we ask people to send their representatives to the Legislative Branch and after the election, we move those members to the Executive Branch. Naturally the members who don't get a chance to move to the Executive will get disappointed. Almost all the members in the Legislative branch are not happy at all.

Let the people decide who is the Chief Executive of the nation. It is a simple change. Still, it is not too late. Somnathiji can call for an emergency session to pass this amendments in the constitution. Both Congress and BJP have enough numbers to pass this amendments.

Yes. This is one of the best strategy. This strategy will go in advantage to the national parties. When it becomes the direct election of the President by the people, both Manmohan Singh and Advani will naturally become a strong candidate for the President of United States of India.

The regional leaders Pawar, Lalu, Jayalalitha and Mayawati will also become a candidate for the President of United States of India. But they do not have the advantages of Manmohan Singh and Advani.

All the candidates may participate in the television debate. Manmohan Singh as the current Prime Minister, everyone knows about Manmohanji and his leadership qualities. Similarly, Advani – has been in the national politics for a long time; so everyone knows about Advani too.

But for the regional leaders, only now they are entering into the national politics. Pawar may be known to everyone in the villages of Maharastra, but not in the villages of Tamilnadu. Similarly, for Jayalalith, everyone in Tamilnadu and may be in other souther states may know Jayalalitha and her leadership qualities; but not in the villages of Bengal or Bihar.

So, for 2009 election, it will be very difficult for the regional leaders to establish in all the states and the national level. So this strategy go in advantage of Manmohan Singh and Advani.

Another fact is, right now, no parties in Tamilnadu is ready to form an alliance with BJP. So, there will not be any significant number of votes for BJP from the people of Tamilnadu. But if you go with the new strategy, Advani may get a significant votes from the people of Tamilnadu.

At present, the perspective of the people is on the local politics and local leadership. With the direct election, the people's perspective changes. It becomes national politics and national leadership.

At present, there is a good amount of trust and understanding established among those regional leaders. With the direct election, that will be gone; they will become competitors; perhaps healthy competitors.

The greatest advantage is: Both Manmohan Singh and Advani will emerge as a very strong leaders at the national; perhaps global level.

The biggest disadvantage is: Not only Congress, BJP; all the parties will be gone, once for all.

For the nation: Politics becomes healthy; Corruption will be gone; Development will happen at all levels. Governments will become effective. Not only India, but also the neighbors will become Developed Nations without losing the Culture and Tradition.
