This is the end of the regional parties. Congress now enjoys total freedom from all those regional parties. No Common Minimum Programme; Its all Congress Programme. No Demand for the Minister posts; Take the post that Congress offers to you.
In 2004, Congress strength was 145 Members of Parliament. In 2009, Congress increased its strength to 206. Still its not safe. Congress goal is to reach and maintain a minimum of 400 to the maximum of 500 Members of Parliament. To reach its goal, Congress can not just focus on New Delhi alone. Congress needs to capture power in all the states too.
It is not Congress's responsibility to develop the regional partners, such as Mamta and others. Mamta has only two choice. Mamta has to lose her identity and merge herself into Congress. Then Sonia will make Mamta as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Or, Mamta has to face Congress competition in the state assembly election.
Congress taught lessons to Mayawathi, Mulayam, Lallu and Pawar. Congress made them to realize the strength and limitations of those regional partners. Congress will teach the same lessons to the current partners too.
With the current political system in India, Congress has no other option. They need to constantly increase their numbers, ie, the number strength in the Parliament. India is not growing anymore in area. So, Congress has to grab the numbers from the current partners. You can not blame Congress for behaving like this. That is the major defect in the Indian Political System.
Its time to stop the Number Game. Let people directly elect the Leader of the Nation. Let people directly elect the President for the nation and Governor for states. Governments in India will get strong leaders with integrity; stable government; The President and Governors will be responsible for the development of the nation; Accountable to the Legislative; Executive Power will be balanced by Legislative Power
You can manipulate the system. You can appoint the President. You can appoint the Election Commissioner. But the truth prevails.
In 2004, Manmmohan Singh was in the background. Abdul Kalam brought Manmohan Singh to the front. That action was not acceptable to many. But that was the Right Action. The right action yields right result.
In 2009, Manmohan Singh continues to be in the front. That is good for the nation and for the people of India.
